The relationship of the maize weevil, a well-known pest in modern rice cultivation dates back to the Jomon period. Traces of the weevil’s presence have been revealed through traces on the surface of Jomon pottery actually predating rice cultivation in Japan. Our continued relationship with the maize weevil is one that we share with the Jomon people.
