From 6 to 15 January 2023, the group exhibition ‘Towards the Symbiocene (共生新世へむけて)’ will be held at the Fan De Nagoya Art Exhibition 2023. using the concept of symbiocene the exhibition aims to raise awareness of conservation practices and environmental issues through contemporary art.

The Symbiocene is a potential geological era that will supersede the Anthropocene and has been proposed by environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht. It represents a state in which human societies and other life forms can co-exist, in a state of symbiosis, thus suggesting a sustainable future. However, this can only be realised through a monumental change in the present. ‘Towards the Symbiocene’  was therefore conceived with the collective desire to raise awareness of nature, conservation and environmental issues by encouraging interest in nature through contemporary art.  

In this exhibition narratives within nature are explored from plants, birds, landscapes and individual experiences, portrayed and communicated through painting, sculpture, installation and video works. A collective exhibition featuring the work of Julian Sagert, Lotta Stöver, Vince Hart, The Bowerbird Collective, Elliott Haigh + Nana Sawada from the UK, Germany, Australia and Japan, through different ecological and environmental interests and pursuits the work looks to collectively define the link between nature and society, the fascination of the natural world and the problems it faces.

In an age when it is important for every individual to think, understand and act on nature conservation and environmental issues, the thought and idea of being and wanting to be connected to nature can bring us new feelings, discoveries and empathy.
